In the early 1990s, InterCity’s Class 47/4s 47 834 "Fire Fly" and 47 835 "Windsor Castle" were often utilised for use on the Royal Train. These were converted to Class 47/7 and renumbered 47 798 "Prince William" and 47 799 "Prince Henry" by May 1995. At the same time they were repainted in a Royal Train version of the Res (Rail express systems) colour scheme. In August 1997 the Res logos were removed and replaced with EWS (English Welsh & Scottish Railway) branded claret. They served until 2004 when replaced by Class 67 locomotives.
